Being BioGro Certified means that our full supply chain from our growers to the roasted coffee beans that arrived at your doorstep is transparent.
IncaFé Organic Coffee committed to get BioGro NZ certified the day we started roasting coffee in 2007. BioGro NZ is New Zealand’s leading organic certifier since 1983 and assists over 830 organic producers, farmers and manufacturers with their organic certification.
Being BioGro Certified means that our full supply chain from our growers to the roasted coffee beans that arrived at your doorstep is transparent. Every coffee bean that you find in your bag of IncaFé Organic Coffee can be traced back to its origin. BioGro NZ audits the certification of our growers and visits us every year for an onsite audit (and a coffee) to carefully audit our comprehensive organic management plan.

Coffee is mostly grown in developing countries with often poor government oversight on chemical use and often poorly educated/informed workers and farmers that use the chemicals. Hence, the presence of chemicals could be unnoticed for a long time. Resulting in direct negative health effects for growers and communities at origin and pesticides ending up in our food chain.
Unfortunately the word “organic” is not legally defined in many growing countries and neither in New Zealand as one of the few OECD countries without a national organic standard. Hence, unless certified by for example BioGro NZ, organic can mean almost anything and you still risk using, selling and consuming products that are not subjected to chemical testing.
Over and above our BioGro NZ certification requirements, throughout the year we do additional comprehensive testing of our coffees for traces of nasty chemicals. Over 99% of our coffee is sourced directly from suppliers whom we have been working with for almost 15 years. This way we can better assure the integrity and quality of our product from bush to cup. To avoid contamination with non-organic coffee we solely work with 100% Organic Certified Coffee Beans.
So why certified? It simply is the only way to assure a sustainable supply chain and a sustainable future for coffee farmers and the quality of coffee. Because let’s be honest, where would we be without a decent cup of coffee?
